If you’re looking for a creative way to promote handwriting skills, the Lowercase Letter Formation workbook from Doodles Help Handwriting fits the bill. Created by an occupational therapist, this series strives to help kids practice their handwriting in a goofy, fun, and kid-friendly way. For each lowercase letter introduced, kids are shown how to form the letter, followed by instructions for turning the letter into a silly doodle: turn a c into a crab, an f into a fox, an m into a s’more. After the doodle is complete, students practice identifying the letter, writing it on its own, and tracing and copying sample sentences related to the doodle. While less formal of a handwriting program, with no stroke-by-stroke practice, this series still does a great job promoting fine motor skills as kids doodle, copy, and trace.
